Manos

Manos is a small planet that, oddly enough, has gravity slightly higher then Earth. (1.05 Earth Standard) The Masters archives report that the liquid core of the small planet is composed mostly of an extremely dense metal they have classified as K9-009F. The metal is very heavy and is useless as a component of spaceships because the energy required overcoming the mass is extremely inefficient. The planet used to have a lighter metal closer to the surface that is an integral part for making the large particle beam cannons for bombarding a planet surface from orbit. The Masters sent automated tunneling machines that would follow the mineral veins, harvest the needed metals and spit out the excess rock out the rear end. They would only surface when they had a full load or needed to have their protoculture cells recharged. The metal ran out 150 years ago and there are other worlds and asteroids with the metal so the planet was abandoned.
There is water on the world but it is basically a giant river around the planet’s equator. The river is 500 miles across. Rain storms on the planet are rare except for with in 1,000 to 2,000 miles of the “River” The north and south poles are cold barren deserts dotted with large rock formations jutting out of the sand.
The native intelligent species on the planet is a small mammal that looks like a lizard ape. They are roughly the size of a chimpanzee and they have long whip tails with a tiny bone ridge at the end. The tail is used as a weapon for defense and to hunt small creatures. Their homes are woven structures that they hang from large tree branches.
The natives make a jerky meat with a very desirable flavor to it. Travelers that are lucky enough to to get some Manos Jerky can grind it into a powder and use it as a spice to make their meals taste much better.
Spoiler Alert
The secret ingredient that makes the jerky taste so good comes from a musk gland of the natives. It is transferred to the jerky as they prepare it.
